Azadeh Maroufmashat

A passionate researcher who likes to link academic research to industry and Policy work.

I am currently among the only females in my department researching energy systems, Power-to-gas, and the hydrogen economy, so a desire to encourage other women to pursue and excel in STEM is particularly dear to my heart.

I am currently Canadian Science policy fellow in Environment and Climate change Canada. Research fellow/open for new opportunity
,

My focus is on the interaction of technology, systems, and policy with energy and the environment.

I obtained my B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering and my M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Energy System Engineering all from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. I was a Postdoctoral fellow/ guest lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo for four years thanks to my knowledge of Renewable energy systems and integrated modeling. I am currently a Research fellow in the Group for Research in Decision Analysis (GERAD) in HEC Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

My research interests lie at the intersection of integrated modeling, optimization, and energy policy. My research contributions (including 21 high- impact journal papers, 5 book chapters, two industry technical reports, and 40 conference presentations) have primarily been on the optimal integration of sustainable energy generation and storage technologies with existing energy systems. I have investigated the technical, environmental, and economic aspects of urban energy system modeling (micro-grid applications), and power-to-gas as a feasible energy storage technology and low-carbon sustainable energy alternative for transportation and for the hydrogen economy. I have obtained several national and institutional grants/awards, including U.S. Department of Energy awards and MITACS Accelerate Grants regarding the application of the Hydrogen economy.

I also co-advised student teams that became Grand Prize winners (2016) and Honorable winners (2018) in the Hydrogen Student design contest held by the U.S. Department of Energy.
