Özlem Tosun

I am currently working at Iberdrola as Green Hydrogen Manager. My aim at work is to develop green hydrogen business in Germany to provide companies our broad offer for their green energy demand and net-zero approaches.

In my everyday job, I have contact with many people with different aspects such as costumers, authorities, engineers, hydrogen suppliers and so on. And that's what I like most: seeing green hydrogen as the cornerstone of the energy transition.

Before starting at Iberdrola as green hydrogen manager, I was working as project manager for hydrogen infrastructure, at Alstom, for the world's first fuel cell train Coradia iLint and its refilling stations. I would describe my work at Alstom like the interface, technical and commerical, between the hydrogen powered trains and the hydrogen refilling station. So that both of those different systems, as well as the companies involved in the consortiums, are communicating & working with each other properply and successfully.

I studied my Bachelor's in Istanbul (Energy Systems Engineering) and focused on electro-mechanical energy conversion from any kind of primary energy sources. Thus I specialised in renewable energy part and worked at wind parks and wind energy companies as a trainee.

I came to Germany in 2013 for an exchange semester, where I took courses in Sustainability Science Department at Leuphana University. I completed my Master's at Ulm University in Germany, where I specialised in fuel cells and batteries, as well as hydrogen as an energy carreier.

During my studies I worked at ZWS (Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden Württemberg) as a scientist assistant in the fuel cell team, where I helped building proton exchange membranes and stacks.

At the end of my studies I wrote my Master's Thesis , in cooperation with ZSW, on PEM Water Electrolysis.

Since many years I combine my technical and commercial knowledge on energy, fuel cells and hydrogen and work in this area. It is my passion and it is fun!

Being empowered by Women* all around the world, who can do many great things, whom are intelligent and full of knowledge about how to make our world more sustainable, ecological and better, is very valuable. And eventually being an influence to any of these Women* is an honour.
