Maricruz Fun Sang Cepeda is a naval engineer with over 20 years of experience in shipbuilding, maritime transport, ship efficiency, and sustainability. She holds a Ph.D. and a postdoc in Ocean Engineering from COPPE/UFRJ, focusing on ship emissions and big data applications. As an Associate Researcher at the ICCT, she leads studies on ship efficiency and the transition to low- and zero-emission marine fuels, including the role of Brazilian ports as renewable fuel hubs. She has represented Brazil as a delegate at the IMO since 2024, is the Latin America Director at SOBENA, the 2nd Vice-President of IPIN Americas, and an active member of CINAVE and WISTA Brazil. Maricruz has authored over 30 scientific publications and participated in more than 70 international conferences, advocating for inclusive and science-based maritime decarbonization.
