Building Physicist and Sustainability Consultant.

Founding Member of Carbon Leadership Forum -Bengaluru Hub

Working in an interdisciplinary domain to help decarbonize the built environment in its entire value chain (energy, waste, supply chain, design, construction technology, circularity)

To do more with less is in the women's DNA. Throughout the civilizations that is how women have brought value addition to human existence and taught the world to live in harmony with nature. The transition to the Green Hydrogen era will be driven by these philosophies. So women's participation in the Green Hydrogen area is imperative to ensure speedy, inclusive and sustainable economic growth which will also ensure social and environmental balance simultaneously.

Dr. Kanwal Kamra S, Founding Director, an All-Women Start-Up- TerraLive Envirotech Pvt Ltd, Provides green building consultancy, tech platforms, materials, and technology solutions to reduce carbon footprint in built structures.

Coming from a research background in Physics, my skills in mathematical modeling & computation motivated me to create tech platforms for energy modeling of the buildings in the early 1990s. Then started my journey as a building physicist and sustainability consultant in the green buildings sector where I work as a resource person to Architects, Consultants, & Contractors to reduce carbon footprint, facilitate the green rating (GRIHA, LEED, IGBC, ECBC, RESET) by helping with energy baseline & forecasting, renewable energy assessment, energy efficiency strategy, IAQ, water and waste management by maintaining a current understanding of the trends & influences of sustainable design, construction, new materials & technology available locally and globally.

As a Core Committee member of the Indian Green Building Council- Bengaluru Chapter I have facilitated national level programs on low C footprint green buildings. As part of the Task Force and Advisory Group, I have contributed to the draft “Green Rating by CII-IGBC for Affordable Housing” and for US DoE sponsored project, executed by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory & CII-IGBC “User Guide for Implementing Energy Conservation Building Code ECBC 2017 in Data Centers”.

Since Dec’20, I have been co-hosting TEDCircle meets to deliberate with industry experts on issues related to climate change & showcase people’s action on the ground across social & environmental sectors benefitting cities. I undertake educational programs and workshops pertaining to Green Building advocacy for decarbonizing the built environment.

Then came a tryst with CLF and co-founded Bengaluru Hub, where I wish to put into action my passion to bring embodied carbon awareness and actionable plans as the mainstream topic for the building industry to address. I am currently working in close association with developers on projects targeting net-zero campuses as part of the Re’Imagining Cities Program.

Realizing how imperative local procurement of materials is, I have undertaken a blockchain-based project which aims to create an entire supply chain capable of providing LCA, EPDs, and Embodied C info with transparency, immutability, and security. Am heading the "Alternative Energy & Fuel Alliance" (Solar & Green Hydrogen as the prime focus) working group under CLF-B that will work on the deep-decarbonization of the industrial sector.

The latest research is on an innovative, environment friendly (1) solar-dried

bricks that can replace traditional kiln bricks to reduce the embodied carbon content, water usage, low LCC, high recyclability (2) gypsum-based plaster that is very low on C footprint, needs no curing, acts natural air purifier & thermal insulator.
