Berceste Beyribey Price

Chartered Scientist and Chemical Engineer

There are not many women in science/engineering subjects, including green hydrogen production. Unfortunately, even in this century, there are too many sexiest in the field and it is important for us to become together and support each others.

Dr Berceste Beyribey Price BSc MSc CSci MRSC

Berceste is a Chartered Scientist and a chemical engineer with a PhD in developing materials for fuel cell technologies. During her academic career, she has gained in-depth knowledge and applied experience of hydrogen energy technologies. She was not only involved in international projects as a researcher but also secured an Early Career Researcher Grant. She assessed projects for the European Commission and international government bodies. She served as a member of various committees in the chemical engineering department to improve the quality of the education and the research activities for twelve years. She made a successful transition from that senior academic role to that of senior scientist with a commercial start-up company at the cutting-edge of developing the technology essential to driving the green economy. She not only solved technical and operational issues but also secured the company’s technology by intellectual property protection and built up and coordinated international industry/academia collaborations. In her previous role as a Senior Technology and Commercial Officer at ZEM Fuel Systems, she secured funding to develop and commercialize direct ammonia fuel cells to decarbonise maritime industry. Currently, she works as an Energy Innovation Project Manager on Industrial Hydrogen Accelerator Programme in the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

Berceste is also an Elected Member of Environment, Sustainability and Energy Community Council and a mentor under the Destination STEMM – Chemical Sciences Programme.
