Xiuxiu Han is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Birmingham, working at the intersection of electrocatalysis, green hydrogen, and sustainable chemical and materials technologies. She currently leads a UKRI-funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions project supported through the Horizon Europe Guarantee and has also led a DAAD-funded research project in Germany.
She has research experience across China, Germany, and the UK, including previous work at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the University of Siegen, and Tsinghua University. Her expertise spans hydrogen evolution and oxygen evolution electrocatalysis, biomass upgrading, plastic electro-upcycling, two-dimensional materials, single-atom catalysts, mesoporous materials, electrochemical energy storage, and DFT- and AI-guided catalyst design.
Beyond fundamental research, Xiuxiu has contributed to government and policy reports, led collaborative projects with Fortune Global 500 companies, and provided technical consultancy to start-ups.
She is particularly interested in coupling hydrogen production with value-added electrochemical reactions to reduce energy demand and support a circular carbon economy. She also contributes to peer review, early-career researcher networks, and interdisciplinary collaboration, and aims to build an independent academic career in sustainable energy, materials, and chemical engineering.
