Susan Byakika is a seasoned sustainability professional currently serving as a Senior Technical Advisor for GIZ’s Promoting a Green Hydrogen Economy program in South Africa. With an Honors degree in Civil Engineering (BSc Civ Eng) and a Masters of Public Health (MPH), Susan specializes in delivering technical assistance focused on the environmental and social sustainability dimensions of the green hydrogen economy. She leads the technical aspects of the sustainability component, overseeing various projects and analyses related to the environmental impacts of green hydrogen, energy security, and the mining and utilization of critical raw materials. Additionally, she is responsible for advancing gender initiatives within the green hydrogen project in South Africa, including an internship program for young women and women networking events. Susan also serves as the country focal point for South Africa’s support to the Women in Green Hydrogen global network.
